I never really listened to Tenacious D, except for the occasional friend saying “listen to this funny song, man.” And I have only seen one of their videos on Youtube when a friend showed it to me. And both of these occurrences I was laughing my ass off. (Makes me wonder why I never kept watching or listening. . hmm) Tenacious D’s style is unique and awesome. Very silly, and very “I’m just havin’ fun.” So, in style of my Tenacious D experience, a friend of mine suggested we watch this movie.

This movie is hilarious throughout. I loved Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ chemistry. I loved how the film was split into sections as well. It gave it that King-Arthur-Quest-esque feel.

The Training: This section was hilarious with the “awesome. . .-ly” bad powerslide and all the other training exercises like the ‘crowd simulator.’ Jack Black cries and then biffs it on his guitar, breaking it. That is so funny. The exaggerated melodrama is excellent. After Jack Black cries, a soft, tender moment is shared between KG and JD, the pizza guy standing by the whole time.

The scene where they try to make a masterpiece is funny as well. Sometimes I have been so musically desperate as well in the past. I love how they ‘had it’ and then ‘lost it’ and it just makes you want to tell JB to calm down. Haha.

This film, and some people might be surprised by me saying this, has one of the best back-stories I have ever heard. The way it was delivered by Ben Stiller was superb. I could not find the dialogue online, but I will give a general idea:

Long ago in Medieval times, the Devil came out of a hole in the ground, but there was a sorcerer (or some other magic dude) to oppose him. The magic user used his magic against the Devil, breaking off the Devil’s tooth. The magic user damns the Devil back to hell, who cannot return until he is complete. Without his tooth, the Devil cannot come back. Some time later, a man wants to serenade a woman on his guitar, but he cannot because he sucks at guitar. The magic dude takes the Devil’s tooth and fashions a pick out of it in the shape of the Devil’s head, horns and all. The man serenades the fine maiden and ever since, anyone who has used the pick has shredded on the guitar, even Eddie Van Halen.

Isn’t that a cool back-story? That is so fucking awesome! Then follows an awesome adventure of two bumbling idiots filled with tons of laughs. It is so funny. You must see this movie. I do not even know that much about Tenacious D, but this movie had me laughing all the way through. I might buy it, actually. If you’re a fan of funny movies, don’t miss this excellen, goofy treat.
