Alright, I have had about enough of this. People need to stop complaining about ’300′ and how it is serving the ‘American agenda’ and ‘attacking Iran and the Middle East,’ which it is not. The article that spurred my nerd rage that is about to follow can be read here.
First off, let me bring some excerpts from the article and then give my nerdy rebuttle to the statement.
“Even some American reviewers noted the political overtones of the West-against-Iran story line and the way Persians are depicted as decadent, sexually flamboyant and evil in contrast to the noble Greeks.”
Alright, enough of this. What the fuck? What is up with this whole West-against-Iran? How are these pissed off people comparing the Spartans to Americans attacking Iran? West vs. Iran?. . . oh yea, right, because, y’know, Greece is in the West. Seriously, there is no ‘political agenda’ being served here. Fuckin’ A. And of course the ‘enemy’ in the movie is going to be depicted as vain and decadent, but that’s just storytelling. Of course the heroes are going to be noble and honorable. . .we (as movie viewers) are on their side, duh. This movie’s villains are not Iranians. . .but Persians who lived, like, 2500 year ago, . . .come on, people.
. . .cultural adviser to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said the United States tries to “humiliate” Iran in order to reverse historical reality and “compensate for its wrongdoings in order to provoke American soldiers and warmongers” against Iran.

I don’t even know what this guy is talking about. It’s based off a damn comic book! How come no one got pissed when the graphic novel was released in 1998? Are they not depicted in the same way? This Mahmoud dude needs to chill. The movie is not “humiliating” Iran to reverse anything. The movie ’300′ simply translates the comic book to the screen, and in brilliant fashion, I might add.
State-run television has run several commentaries the past two days calling the film insulting and has brought on Iranian film directors to point out its historical inaccuracies.
The film-makers have stated repeatedly that this movie is not completely historically accurate. It’s historical fiction, folks.
“The film depicts Iranians as demons, without culture, feeling or humanity, who think of nothing except attacking other nations and killing people,” Ayende-No said in its article Tuesday.
Alright, first let me correct the first sentence: “The depicts PERSIANS as demons. . .,” or even better “depicts the VILLAINS as demons. . .” my goodness, people. No one is saying “oh, Sparta is being attacked by Iran!” Oh my goodness. . .the things you people come up with.
I don’t want to rant too much because it is wasting my time, but let me just say I am not holding any of these statements to have any validity since no one complained when the comic was released nine years ago. Your [people making these accusations] words are empty. Also, it is based off a fuckin’comic book (a fuckin’ great comic book), that is bound to take liberties with the story and dramatize/exaggerate things.
Seriously, everyone needs to stop putting politics into things that are strictly art. This is so annoying. A movie can’t even be released with someone trying to draw connections to the way things are in the world today. I am American, I saw the movie, and I had absolutely NO bias against any nation at all. I didn’t even have the thought of people getting angry over this film. I mean, the idea is so ridiculous. Why do people ALWAYS claim there is some underlying political shit going on? It’s so damn annoying.
In the case of ’300,’ here is a great movie, with excellent visuals and a great tale of bravery and honor. (However, I think this movie’s visual style might be anti-regular-filming-technique. Haha) Bringing politics into something that is strictly a piece of art just ruins it. You guys are just ruining the movie and it’s whole ancient sense of honor and bravery, which isn’t around as much these days. Apparently recognizing art for art’s sake isn’t either.
I think in every movie about war, you can feel the political overtones and comparisons to the war in the middle east, but its because its fucking war. I am sure that people who are upset about the movie are just doing for publicity. The movie speaks for itself, its just bad ass. Can’t wait for Zack Snyder doing watchmen.
These protesters are pissing me off too. First of all it is historical fiction (though I might call it something closer to fantasy) and not many people believe it to be historically accurate. However, there are people who will actually believe that the things depicted in the movie are real and they should be informed that this is fiction. These are probably the same people that think the stuff that goes on in the show CSI is real too (these people are commonly referred to as “americans” or “idiots”).
What the Iranians don’t realize is that most Americans think Iran is full of Arabs when it’s really full of Persians. Many Americans can’t even point to Iran, or even Greece for that matter, on a map. This is really much ado about nothing and Ahmadinejad is just using it as an opportunity to drum-up anti-American support among his constituents.
you idiot. iranians ARE persians.
If Iran wants to bitch about 300, they should bitch about the comic book. I’m Iranian and I don’t give a shit about 300. All I see is that It’s just a movie.
You better fuck off asshole…if you wanna make a fantasy movie you don’t have to fuck with other nation’s history and ancient… you are the biggest asshole in the world…sorry but ===>FUCK YOU…!
Here is a comment from my classmates to you motherfucker.
To whom (mother fuckers like you) it may concern
We are Iranian (Persians) people and we have 7000 years civil and culture. We are son of Cyrus the great – land of god & originator of human right..
You can not change of this history by made these kinds of fuckin funny movies. You are so weak to do such things.
Then you better know your history that you live in forests same as animals in 400 years ago and set your scientists on fire and think of the world as flat shit. We fuck you in Persian Gulf or the entire world if you continue such behaviors.
Sorry dude, but… I kinda don’t believe you both are Iranians… No Offense
The movie is great anyways… Sure it was Gory and the PERSIANS are depicted as nasty inhumane…humans… Of course it’s NO WHERE near Iranians… or Persians back then for that matter (I mean an Obese guy with a funny nose and hands chopped off for knives for an executioner… seriously? you can survive that kind of operation :P?)
But it depicts professional movie making through its scenes, in which they darken… cool editing I have to say…
[...] film “300”. In this article, I am stoked about it, in this one, I give a glaring review, and in this one, I get pissed at people who get pissed at it. Looking back some four years or so, I still think “300” is fucking baller. The imagery. . [...]
